Laser Therapy For Ankle Sprain Is The Key

The inconvenience of having one's mobility put to a halt is an unfortunate event. When it comes to injuries, one of the most common ones deal with the ankle. Something as traumatic as a quick turn or twist can leave an individual in severe pain. Even though all injuries are not created the same, the experience can be devastating. However, laser therapy for ankle sprain may be the key to an individual getting up and moving again.

Sometimes the pain feels like it is resonating on the outside of the injured area, but it is really originating from the joint. Mild cases sometimes don't even show bruising or swelling, but minor pain due to ligaments being compressed. Symptoms often vary from being mild to severer. Individuals whose case may be mild can continue to function the rest of their lives, whereas those with major injuries might have to be hospitalized.

Sprains of this nature are often put on a grading system. Those that suffer mild pain when walking or taking small steps can function pretty much. Tearing of the ligament often results in mild swelling. This is categorized as grade 1.

When a person has a grade 3 injury, they are in very severe pain. When athletes experience this type of pain, they are not able to participate in any sport. This is usually accompanied by stiffness, swelling, and possibly bruising. There has been some form of moderate tearing and there is no stability in the joint itself. Severe pain is often felt due to a complete rupture that has occurred within the ligament. The pain is sometimes extreme.

There is usually other damage besides the ligament. Sometimes tendons, cartilage, joint capsule, and other tissues may result. An ankle that is severely sprained may have q complete ruptures of ligaments causing dislocation and possibly fractures bones in the ankle.

When a ligament starts to rip away, it sometimes takes a small piece of bone with it. This injury usually goes unnoticed for a while before it is discovered. There may even be an onset of osteochondral lesions when part of the talus bone has been torn.

Laser therapy is a great option because it helps in reducing swelling due to an increase in the lymphatic flow. Also, the fact that blood flow increases and provides nutrients to surrounding tissues while also removing tissue damage is a plus. The production of endorphins also increases which is also a great asset.

The body's natural process of healing itself also speeds up. This means that a person can move to rehabilitation possibly sooner than expected. Very mild sprains have been known to see improvement after 3 to 5 visits. Pain reduction also occurs due to the formation of prostagladin.

Great athletes all over the world are very familiar with using laser therapy as a process of healing for ankle sprains. They know that each day brings them closer to getting back on track. All hope is not lost because they know they are about to be on the move.
