An Introduction To Navicular Pain

Once you see that your horse is not walking properly, then there is a great possibility that there is something wrong with its heel area. As its owner, it your responsibility to get to know the different bones in this portion of your animal. Thus, get acquainted with what they call as the navicular bone.

First of all, you have to be aware that this bone is not that big. Nevertheless, it can cause a huge damage on the performance of your animal if it is not being attended to. Thus, you would have to determine whether your pony is really having navicular pain or not.

If your pet has experienced the same kind of pain in its body part before, then things would definitely be easier for you to handle. If this is not the situation that you have at hand, then you are required to get down to the bottom of the problem. You will need to make an effort in doing a research about this horse condition even if you have never encountered it in your whole life.

Also, be able to stay focused on its symptoms. If some of the symptoms are already being reflected by your animal, then you would just have to let its doctor check on the navicular bone. Moreover, the problem can easily escalate over time so just prepare for the worst.

Allow the veterinarian to look over the supporting ligaments as well. Keep in mind that all of these things are part of the heel of the horse. They are connected to one another which only means that if one is inflamed or damaged, then there would certainly be a corresponding effect on the other portions. This makes an x ray exam an absolute necessity.

If the navicular bone has caused its other buddies to stray away from their original position, then a realignment procedure called the shoeing treatment is needed to be done. It is a requirement to get the heels in tip top shape again. Failure to avail of this process might lead your pet to be a limp for the rest of its life.

Be able to provide your pet with the right medication as well. If they have already been prescribed to you by the doctor, then you will just have to buy them from the local drugstore. You will need to do this as soon as you can so that the animal would be able to join its fellow ponies in no time.

If the pain in the heel of your pet has gone beyond extremes, then you will have to prepare it for a brief medical operation. Keep in mind that this process would not be easy on both of you. You will need to monetarily invest on it and just hope for the best.

Overall, be able to treat your horse differently from its peers. They have may have a similar appearance but one treatment might not work on your pet even if it has already worked for others. Thus, always be able to consult its doctor.
