The world of electronic medical records is taking over the way that we record patient information. Before the 21st century, a lot of billers used paper to record patient data. Often, a patient would have a manila folder with all of their information in it. Today, doctors have access to patient data 24 hours daily and they assist patients from all walks of life. It is important to allow a physicians to help you when they ask a client for their records. Today, coders have access to medical procedure codes, information, soap notes, superbills and transcriptions immediately. You no longer have to dig through piles of paperwork to know what you are looking for. Years ago when paper billing was around, a physicians would have to go through large folders of paperwork in order to find information on a patient. Today, this is not the case.

The main reason is because the software that you will be working on is sophisticated and takes time to learn. How much time? It can take between 6 months to several years.

Today, there is a 17% shortage of labor. It is important to see that a lot of information is required in order to make something happen for the better. ICD-10 got replaced by ICD-9 in October of 2015. It is important that everything begins to work itself out over time.
