How You Can Learn About Available Thyroid Disorder Care In Las Vegas

By Kurt Saniel

One gland in the body is the thyroid, which performs many important tasks. It produces proteins, controls the hormones secreted by other organs and controls the speed at which the individual uses energy. A Las Vegas Thyroid Doctor can help anyone with a dysfunctional thyroid gland.

This gland may be dysfunctional due to congenital anomalies. Other causes include cancer or non-cancerous nodules, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism or a condition known as thyroiditis. There are additional disorders that may be affecting this gland.

The branch of medicine that focuses on care for these disorders is endocrinology. However, an endocrinologist is not the only doctor capable of providing care for the patient with thyroid anomalies. Among the endocrinologists are those physicians who focus on diabetes and reproductive endocrinology.

One abnormal condition is hyperthyroidism, which is an overactive thyroid gland. It can speed up metabolism. The negative effects are sudden loss of weight, heartbeat irregularity and nervous irritability.

It can also have symptoms such as sweating, altered menstrual patterns, frequent bowel movements, brittle hair and thin skin. It is difficult to evaluate. Seniors may have barely noticeable or complete absence of symptoms. If they take medication containing beta blockers, any signs of hyperthyroidism may be obscured.

One uncommon condition that definitely requires an endocrinologist is thyroid cancer. Due to the small number of cases, not all of these doctors have experience caring for this condition. It is important to find one who has that experience.

Care for someone with thyroid nodules or Graves disease will also need a professional with experience. A surgeon with maximum experience in operating for any thyroid related condition is the optimal choice. When a child has a thyroid condition of any kind, care should come from a doctor with experience.

Many thyroid conditions are cared for competently by your primary physician. For some reason the number of doctors focusing on endocrinology conditions is small. This may be due to the low number of people needing that type of care.
