The Importance Of Epipen Carrier For Medical Emergencies

By Sherry Gross

Allergies are forms of a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system. It plays a major role in some pulmonary conditions such as asthma. A reaction is caused by close contact with a trigger agent or an allergen. These reactions can be mild to severely alarming in effects, and can even be potentially fatal, as with the case of anaphylaxis. This is why most allergic people watch what they eat and always keep an epipen carrier at hand for when these breakouts might occur.

But somehow, there can be system glitches that often produce antibodies that deviate from the norm. They either take a healthy cell for an enemy or consider a really harmless agent for one that needs to be annihilated. This hypersensitivity is also known as allergies. They result in reactions that can be very mild, or very dangerous. For safety reasons, it is quintessential for one who has allergies to bring along an epipen carrier, just in case.

There are actually many forms of this immunity hypersensitivity. These can be caused by commonplace objects and things that are found almost everywhere. One such type is the pollen allergy. This explains why some people lapse into incessant sneezing when they are made to inhale the fresh odor of flowers. This type is more commonly known as hay fever or seasonal allergies.

Those who are allergic to dust mites now have a valid reason to be exempted from house cleaning. Dust mites are very tiny organisms that live in the dust that a not so tidy home usually accumulates. Unlike seasonal triggers such as the case of the pollen variety, this occurs the entire year round. One can place dust mite covers over mattresses, pillows, and other stuff to prevent the onset of reactions.

There are also those that have to stay away from damp areas. They are the type that are allergic to molds. This fungi is both parasitic and microscopic and float in the air unnoticed. They are often found in hay, grass, piles of leaves, the basement, even the bathroom.

There are some people who ask about the ingredients of a certain dish that they are about to eat. These people are not weight watchers, they simply have food allergies. Most of them are allergic to fish, nuts, eggs, shellfish, and dairy products. In order to avoid violent reactions they always see to it that they avoid the said trigger which is why one must observe caution in feeding guests.

Minor symptoms such as red eyes, itchiness and runny nose can be safely treated right at home. The patient should be given over the counter antihistamines and decongestant to relieve the airways and allow for better breathing. These medications generally come in the form of drops, tablets and nasal sprays.

Allergies can bring about very fatal reactions as well, which is commonly known as anaphylaxis. This is manifested by nausea, difficulties in breathing, dilated vessels and very low blood pressures. The patient should be treated immediately to avoid even more severe complications.

This is why allergic folks often bring along EpiPens with them. These one shot medications are often placed in special carriers. These shots contain a dose of epinephrine which is the first aid for anaphylaxis. This shot, however, only lasts about fifteen minutes. When the said pen is used, it is important to seek medical help immediately and rush to the nearest medical facility..
