By Marsha P. Baroney

Many people who suffer from chronic allergies and related symptoms decide to investigate their condition and the many allergy treatment PA options available to relieve their symptoms. These allergies usually occur when their immune system reacts to a foreign substance. For most people, this reaction is produced at normal levels and protects the body from unwanted invaders that could make them sick or cause an infection. For some individuals, however, their immune system identifies harmless allergens as a threat and attacks them, causing uncomfortable or serious symptoms like rashes, itchy eyes and skin, restricted airways, irritated bowels, among others. The following is a list of the most frequently exhibited auto immune reactions.

Hay fever, which is also called allergic rhinitis, can cause multiple cold type symptoms, like a runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, congestion, or sinus pressure, which can seriously hamper daily activities and overall quality of life. However, it is not caused by a virus, unlike a cold is, but rather by outside and inside allergens like pollen, dust mites, and pet dander.

Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is an allergic reaction that prompts the skin to break out into red and irritated rashes that include, but are not limited to, the arms, legs, and behind the knees, and elbows. What it is exactly that causes eczema is undetermined at this point, but the running theory is that it might be a combination of inherited traits like sensitive skin and immune system malfunctions. This condition tends to flare up and then disappear, and is sometimes accompanied by other auto immune conditions like asthma and hay fever.

A large proportion of children and adults are affected by food allergies, which are immune system responses that can happen even if they consume only a small amount of the offending food. The symptoms can include digestive problems, hives, swollen airways, and in some extreme cases result in anaphylaxis.

An individual has a strong allergic response to a bug bite when their immune system is overly sensitive to bug venom. These reactions can include coughing fits, asthma attacks, itching, swelling in the area of skin around the bite, chest tightening, and in very serious cases, anaphylactic shock.

A drug allergy occurs when an individual's immune system reacts abnormally to a medication they take. This reaction can be caused from a variety of over-the-counter and prescription drugs, and may include fever, hives, or rashes. This can, unfortunately, happen at any moment - even in case where an individual takes a medication that they had never had a reaction to previously. This is not to be confused with an adverse drug reaction, which is not triggered by the immune system, but can have similar symptoms.

Although allergies cannot be totally cured, there are number of allergy and sinusitis treatment pa options that can help relieve allergy symptoms. These services include taking allergy drops, shots, some non-invasive surgical procedures, and a vast assortment of alternative treatment methods.
